India’s star batter KL Rahul has helped an 11-year-old budding cricketer in need with a donation of Rs 31 lakh. The donation helped in the treatment of a rare blood disorder which led to an urgent need for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).

In December 2021, Varad Nalawade’s father Sachin and, his mother Swapna Jha started a campaign to pay for the treatment. However, they could not arrange enough funds. Fortunately, Rahul’s team got in touch with the organization and did the needful.

"When I came to know about Varad's condition, my team got in touch with GiveIndia so that we can help him in any way we could,” Rahul said.

"I am glad that the surgery was successful, and he is doing well. I hope Varad gets back on his feet at the earliest and goes on to achieve his dreams. I hope my contribution inspires more and more people to come forward and help those in need," he added.

“We are thankful to KL Rahul for donating such a large amount for Varad’s surgery. But for him, it would have been impossible to carry out the bone marrow transplant in such a short period of time. Thank you, Rahul,” a relieved Varad's mother said.

The new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper has been out of auction due to injury he picked up during the ODI series at home against West Indies. The hamstring injury ruled him out of the three-T20I series which India won by 3-0. Rahul is also not a part of India’s squad for T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka. He is currently at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore with Washington Sundar.

Earlier this year, Rahul was named captain of LSG for a sum of Rs 17 crore. Last year, he parted ways with Punjab Kings (PBKS).

In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Rahul led India in three-ODI series against South Africa which the visitors lost by 3-0. Also, he stepped in as captain in second Test against the Dean Elgar-led side when Virat Kohli was ruled out due to upper back spasm.
