Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has once again grabbed the attention of the cricketing world as he has spoken about the future captaincy of Team India and mentioned KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer's name in the same breath. The 59-year-old also spoke on India’s current coach Rahul Dravid and how he can help the team with his coaching techniques. Shastri will be the commissioner of the newly formed Legends Cricket League (LCL) which will start next month in 2022 in Oman.
“Rahul Dravid knows his job. All I want to say to him is enjoy. KL Rahul is there, Shreyas Iyer has good leading qualities in the future especially in white-ball cricket.” Shastri quoted.
He also had a big say in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and national team and the conflict of interest of players.
“It is over the top this conflict of interest. I was not really for it. A masseur with the Indian team cannot work with an IPL team. Conflict of interest is absolute nonsense. It should be thrown into the bin. For me to not be allowed to do commentary if I am India coach, how is that conflict of interest? Ever since it came out in the Lodha report, I was against it. You aren’t giving your cricketers a chance. It’s absolute nonsense, this conflict of interest clause should be thrown into the bin,” Shastri said.
Former India captain MS Dhoni was also the focal point of Shastri’s conversation after MS Dhoni was appointed as the mentor of the side during the T20 World Cup.
“For me, it really didn’t matter when Dhoni was announced as the mentor. There is no sharper brain than Dhoni when it comes to white ball cricket. I know him (Dhoni) at close quarters and if something is done for the good of the game, why not?" he said of Dhoni.
Shastri’s successor, Dravid, has got off to a great start as a head coach of the national side guiding India to T20I and Test series wins against New Zealand. His next challenge will start on Boxing Day (December 26) as India take on South Africa at Centurion. Virat Kohli’s men will have to be at their fluent best to win their first series in the Rainbow nation.
