In what came as devastating news for cricket followers around the world in the early hours of December 14 (Wednesday), legendary England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was airlifted to a hospital after he suffered a horrific car crash while filming an episode of the BBC show, Top Gear. The terrifying accident took place on December 12 (Monday) when the 45-year-old was filming at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.
"Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning - with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course," the BBC said in a statement.
According to a report in The Sun, Flintoff's injuries are believed to be non-fatal or 'not life-threatening'. It is also being reported that the England legend was not driving at high speeds when the accident occurred.
"All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too," a source told The Sun.
"Freddie was taken to hospital by air ambulance shortly afterwards. Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering," the source added.
This is the second time in three years that Flintoff has suffered an accident while filming an episode of Top Gear. In 2019, the legendary all-rounder was involved in a 125mph car crash but declared himself 'absolutely fine'.
