India's legendary fast bowler Jhulan Goswami will bid adieu to international cricket at Lord's, England on September 24. Jhulan has been picked in the ODI squad for three-ODI series against England.
According to ESPN, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen on giving the Bengal-born bowler a "proper farewell".
However, Jhulan is unlikely to retire from all forms of cricket. She may play in the inaugural edition of women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023.
The last time she played T20I cricket was in 2018. Her last ODI appearance was against Bangladesh in World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. She could not get a farewell game in the World Cup because she picked up a side strain.
While Mithali Raj announced her retirement hours before squad announcement for Sri Lanka tour, Jhulan was still recovering from her injury.
The 39-year-old is the leading wicket-taker in the format. She has 252 wickets from 201 games at an average of 21.98 including two five-wicket hauls.
BCCI also announced the T20I squad for the three-T20I series. KP Navgire, who made a name in the Women's T20 challenge with an explosive 34-ball 69, has earned her maiden call-up.
The two notable omissions are senior bowlers Shikhar Pandey and Poonam Yadav.
