It was truly a Legends' day out when India's two World Cup winning captains Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni were spotted playing golf at the Kapil Dev - Grant Thornton Invitational 2022 event in Gurugram. Kapil Dev and Dhoni are the only Indian skippers to clinch the 50-over World Cup for India. Team India grabbed their maiden title in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil while Dhoni guided the team to its second ODI World Cup triumph in 2011 on home soil.
Meanwhile, Kapil shared a pic with Dhoni on Instagram and captioned the post, "When cricketers turn golfers".
A viral video of Dhoni shows him striking the ball, albeit with different equipment altogether. He has been snapped playing the sport on many occasions since his retirement from the highest level.
Here's the video…
Last month, Dhoni and Kapil Dev were spotted watching a US Open 2022 men's singles game between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcarez at New York's iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium.
It was under Kapil Dev's captaincy that the Indian cricket team won their first-ever World Cup title in 1983. India had defeated two-time World Cup winners, the mighty West Indies at Lord's to register one of the greatest sporting events ever in India's sporting history.
After a long gap of 28 years, MS Dhoni-led team India defeated a strong Sri Lankan side at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium to lift the World Cup trophy in 2011 - India's second title-win in Cricket World Cup. Team India won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy too under Dhoni's captaincy.
Dhoni was last seen in action during the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He quit as all-format India captain in 2017 but has remained Chennai Super Kings' mainstay and game-changer as a leader. He returned as captain of the franchise after Ravindra Jadeja stepped down from the leadership role. Talking about Dev, he famously became the first Indian captain to lift the World Cup back in 1983 at Lord's, where beat two-time winners West Indies by 43 runs to lift the coveted trophy. He ended his career in 1994 with almost 700 international wickets and more than 9000 runs to his name.
Dhoni is also the only captain in the history of the sport to have won three ICC trophies – T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013). It was under the leadership of Dhoni that India reached first spot in both Test and ODI formats of the sport. His captaincy spell began in 2007 with the T20 World Cup in South Africa, where a young Indian side claimed the title in South Africa. Dhoni went on to become of the best captains in the sport.
