Former Indian cricket captain and head coach Rahul Dravid cast his vote in Bengaluru for the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. In the video, he was seen standing in the queue with other voters waiting for his turn to cast a vote. The 51-year-old cast his vote in Dollar's Colony, which is part of the Bengaluru North constituency.
After casting his ballot, he addressed the media and emphasised the importance of citizen participation in a democracy.
"It's my vote. This is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate our democracy and take part in it. The Police have done a great job, the arrangements are fantastic. I hope that Bengaluru creates a record in terms of voter turnout. Everyone should come out, you, the media should send out a message to the public so that adequate discussion are done on this so that they can come out in large numbers," Rahul Dravid told India Today.
Apart from Rahul Dravid, his former teammate and legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble also cast his vote in Bengaluru. He shared his experience on the social media platform ‘X’.
The second phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is underway which is happening across 13 states and a Union Territory. There are 88 seats up for grabs in the country and Karnataka is casting votes for 14 seats on April 26. These include Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur and Kolar. Karnataka has a total of 28 Lok Sabha constituencies. The third phase of elections for the remaining 14 seats will occur on May 7. The Counting of votes is set to take place on June 4.
The Indian head coach Rahul Dravid is currently focusing on Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. By the end of April, India plan to decide the top 15 players for the T20 World Cup in 2024, which will kick off in June.
