South Africa have been dealt a blow ahead of their first ODI against Netherlands as Lungi Ngidi misses out after testing positive for Covid-19. The 25-year-old was tested positive in the latest rounds of test and will now remain on the sidelines for the opening ODI.
It is worth noting, South Africa are already without Lizaad Williams who misses due to muscle strain. The right-arm fast bowler sustained a muscular issue ahead of the proposed ODI series. It comes as a personal blow for Williams after he was not available for the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.
Cricket South Africa has drafted Junior Dala as replacement for Ngidi. On the other hand, few senior players have been rested for the limited-overs series as well. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada are all rested with one eye on India series as Keshav Maharaj takes charge of the team.
South Africa are scheduled to face Netherlands in the first ODI on Friday, while the second and third ODIs are scheduled for upcoming Sunday and Wednesday. All the ODI matches will take place at Supersports Park in Centurion. The series serves as warm-up to India’s tour of South Africa next month.
