In a thrilling tenth match of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season held in Dallas, Texas Super Kings' Faf du Plessis lit up the evening with a breathtaking century. The veteran South African batter hammered 100 runs off just 51 balls, laced with six boundaries and seven towering sixes. However, despite his brilliance, it was the San Francisco Unicorns who had the last laugh, chasing down a stiff target of 199 with remarkable ease.
Du Plessis opened the innings for Texas Super Kings, a franchise affiliated with the Chennai Super Kings. With solid support from Jake Fraser-McGurk, who chipped in with a quickfire 38 off 24 balls, Texas posted a competitive total of 198 for 5 in their 20 overs.
But the Unicorns were in no mood to play it safe.
Chasing 199, the San Francisco side got off to a flying start. Openers Matthew Short and Finn Allen put together a blistering 117-run partnership in just 8.3 overs. Allen was particularly explosive, smashing 78 off 35 deliveries, including four boundaries and eight sixes. After Short’s dismissal, Surat took the momentum forward with a dazzling 61 off 29 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes.
With this dominant performance, the Unicorns reached the target in just 16.1 overs, finishing at 202 for 3, and sealing a comprehensive seven-wicket win.
This result handed Texas Super Kings their first defeat of the season after three straight wins, while San Francisco Unicorns remained unbeaten, securing their fourth victory in as many matches.
While du Plessis's century was undoubtedly the highlight of the first innings, it was the Unicorns’ explosive batting depth and aggressive intent that stole the show, making them a team to watch in this MLC season.
