Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, who announced his international retirement in 2020, might return to action for the national team if the current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja leaves his post, according to reports.

Following the ousting of Prime Minister Imran Khan, it was reported that the former Pakistan cricketer Raja will be putting in his resignation, with Najam Sethi set to replace him as the new PCB Chairman. Meanwhile, Amir who has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for his country, earlier said that he was mentally tortured and this was the reason for this decision.

“I am leaving cricket for now because I’m being mentally tortured. I don’t think I can bear such torture. I’ve borne lots of torture from 2010 to 2015, for which I served my time. I’ve been tortured by being told the PCB invested a lot in me,” he had stated in December 2020, while announcing his retirement.

But a recent report by Samaa English TV, it is being said that the pacer might as well return.

Earlier, Amir thanked Najam and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for their constant support. The 29-year-old pacer said that he would return to the national side if the then coaches Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq leave their roles and responsibilities.

Amir has had a remarkable career over the years. He picked up six wickets on his Test debut in Sri Lanka. 2010 saw a giant leap in his career when he became the youngest bowler, aged 18, to pick 50 wickets. However, soon after this achievement, Amir was caught in a spot-fixing scandal that saw him banned from the sport for five years along with Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif.

According to reports, 59-year-old Ramiz is slated to quit his job. His proposal of holding a four-nation tournament was also reportedly turned down by the ICC.
