Not RCB home ground but Mohali likely to host Kohli’s 100th Test as BCCI likely to change venues

Virat Kohli is likely to play his 100th Test match against Sri Lanka at the I.S. Bindra stadium in Mohali. The next home series of Indian team is against Sri Lanka right after the white-ball series against West Indies. The series against Sri Lanka as of now is scheduled to start from February 25 but it might see a change in schedule because Sri Lanka Cricket board has requested Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) to play T20Is first and then the Test matches.

“BCCI is likely to change the entire tournament fixture and by doing that Mohali can get the chance to host Kohli's 100th Test match which he could not play in South Africa due back spasm,” a source told Sports Tak.

“Apart from the Test venue, Lucknow or Himachal is likely to host T20I matches. A meeting is likely to be held in the next couple of days,” the source added.

Kohli had played 97 Tests before the tour of South Africa. After the historic win at Centurion in the first Test, the 33-year-old batter missed the second Test due to back spasm in Johannesburg. Kohli returned for the series decider In Cape Town and ended the series with 99 Tests. He surprisingly stepped down from Test captaincy after the Test series defeat against the Proteas.

It was earlier reported that Kohli will play his 100th Test at his IPL home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. Coincidently, Kohli’s former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate, Ab de Villiers had also played his 100th Test at the same venue in 2015.

On the other hand, the former India captain scored his last international century in 2019. His red-ball form since the start of 2021 has been below par. The Indian batting maestro will look to change it when he takes field against his favourite opponent.

Kohli has an incredible record against Sri Lanka across formats. The veteran batter's highest second-highest Test score of 243 had come against the visitors in 2017 at his home ground in Delhi. Adding to this Kohli’s first international century was also against the island nation way back in 2009 in Kolkata.
