The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is still a few months away but there is already buzz about the rivalry in both camps. Australia's ace off-spinner Nathan Lyon who has 530 wickets predicted that hosts will end the decade-old drought this time. Last time, he was not spared by Rishabh Pant on Indian or the Australian soil. However, it is not Pant who is giving Lyon sleepless nights. He named Yashasvi Jaiswal as the batter who has forced him to think. He even had conversations with England spinner Tom Hartley about the Indian opener about his experienced earlier this year.
"There's a lot of thought going into it. Obviously, I have come across the majority of them, but Jaiswal is someone I haven't. I had a couple of good chats with Tom Hartley [of England] just about how we went about it. I know we are totally different spinners but when Jaiswal went after him, that's something I can pick up from him and hopefully put that into play. Just watching the whole lot – Sarfaraz coming out. Will he be in there or will it be Rahul? I don't know. They are full of superstars. It's pretty special," Lyon told Brad Haddin on Willow Talk podcast when asked to name an Indian player who 'keeps him up at night'.
Jaiswal’s Test numbers
Jaiswal has an impressive record in Tests. The left-handed batter has scored 1,028 runs from 16 innings at an average of 68.53 including three centuries and four fifties. The 22-year-old's personal best score of 214 came against England in Rajkot.
Recently, several Australian batters including skipper Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Steve Smith took Jaiswal’s name when asked about who they see as India’s next super star.
Lyon predicts 5-0 in Australia’s favour
In the same podcast with Haddin and Australia women's team captain Alyssa Healy, he made a bold prediction that Australia will win the Test series 5-0.
“It’s been ten years since we have won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. I started thinking about this series when England were over in India, watching them to go about it. I love the game, and I will watch a decent Test match, but I have eyes on this series for a long time now," the 36-year-old said.
“My prediction is 5-0 to Australia," he added.
