During the first ODI of the three-ODI series, Pakistan women’s team captain Nida Dar was hit in the face by a rampant New Zealand batter Sophie Devine. Nida was struck in the face by Sophie's shot and received medical attention on the field immediately. But she was in no position to continue and was taken off the field.
"After assessing Nida's condition, the team physio has determined that Nida will not take any further part in today's ODI," the PCB said in a statement. "The decision on Nida's participation in the remaining matches of the series will be made in due course."
The incident took place in the 44th over of the innings. After Nida was taken off the field, Omaima Sohail completed her over and conceded four runs from as many deliveries.
In Nida's absence, Fatima Sana assumed the captaincy. She was hit for a couple of sixes and a four by Sophie. She finished with bowling figures of 78 for one wicket in her full quota of 10 overs.
24-year-old Sadaf Shamas was named as Nida's replacement. Sent in to bat no.3 in the run chase of 365, she scored 10 runs from 26 deliveries. She was dismissed by Fran Jonas in the 26th over of the innings.
Pakistan were bowled out for 234 and lost the match by 131 runs despite opener Sidra Ameen’s century.
This is the second injury blow to Pakistan in the ODI series. Earlier, during a fielding practice session, Diana Baig fractured her index finger.
"While fielding in a practice session, [Baig] suffered an injury to the index finger of her bowling arm," a statement from the board stated. "Immediately after the incident, she was taken to a local hospital for a thorough examination, including an X-ray.
"The medical reports have confirmed a horizontal fracture in Diana Baig's index finger, making her unavailable for the ODI series against the White Ferns. The PCB medical team is closely monitoring her condition, and she will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary course of action for her recovery."
The second ODI of the series will be played on December 15 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
