Pakistan's Champions Trophy-winning all-rounder Imad Wasim announces retirement from international cricket, says 'In recent days...'

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international on November 24. Imad announced his retirement with a post on his social media account.
 

"In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket," Imad wrote on X. "I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years - it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan.

"Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true. It's an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forward with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and I look forward to watching the team excel.
 

“Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage.”

Imad started his cricketing journey representing Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup 2006 where they won the trophy. He was made captain for the subsequent edition as well. The left-arm spinner and middle-order batter made his international debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka.
 

Imad has played 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is. He has scored 986 runs from 40 ODI innings at an average of 42.86 including five half-centuries. In T20Is, he has scored 486 runs from 44 innings at an average of 15.18 including one half-century. With the ball, he has 44 ODI wickets including a fifer. In T20Is, he had a stupendous economy rate of 6.26 runs per over. He has 65 T20I wickets including a fifer.
 

The 34-year-old will continue to play franchise cricket. He is likely to be seen in action in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
