Australia captain Pat Cummins was ruled out for a period of at least six weeks on August 7 (Monday). The Baggy Greens' chief selector George Bailey revealed that the country's premier paceman has "an undisplaced fracture of his left radius" which will require rehabilitation for minimum of six weeks.

"Cummins has an undisplaced fracture of his left radius which requires six weeks rehabilitation," said Bailey in a release.

"We view a period of enforced rest for Pat as a positive ahead of this important World Cup campaign.

"There are still a number of games he could play before the World Cup which is more than enough for him to have a strong preparation," he added.

Australia are scheduled to embark on a white-ball tour to South Africa later in the month as the three-match T20I series is scheduled to begin on August 8. Cummins has not been named in the T20I squad but, as of now, Cummins is slated to lead the Baggy Greens in the following five-match ODI series against the Proteas.

Australia are scheduled to play a total of eight ODI matches before the World Cup. Five matches will be against South Africa before the Baggy Greens take on India in a three-match ODI series just before the quadrennial competition.

Cricket Australia also announced an extended 18-member senior men's national team squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup slated to begin on October 5. Fast bowler Pat Cummins will lead the Baggy Greens in the quadrennial competition while no vice-captain has been announced.

The Australian squad for the World Cup will be trimmed down to 15 players by September while the 18-member squad announced will feature in South Africa and India ODIs, the two series which Australia are scheduled to play before the World Cup.
