Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf passed away on Sunday, February 5, at the age of 75 at the American Hospital in Dubai, according to reports from Geo News. The news was
Musharraf, an ardent fan of cricket was privy to many clashes between India and Pakistan in the late 2010s and one such incident that comes to mind was when the former leader of India's neighbouring country shared a compliment with a young MS Dhoni for his long hairstyle, which was a key part of Dhoni's look in those days.
"I saw a placard which said 'Dhoni have a haircut'. If you want to take my opinion, you look good with this haircut. Don't have a haircut," Musharraf famously said during India's tour of Pakistan back in 2005-06.
The incident took place when Dhoni played a match-winning knock alongside Yuvraj Singh as the duo powered India to a five-wicket win over Inzamam-ul Haq's team. The former India skipper produced the match-changing knock by scoring 72 in just 46 deliveries and was also adjudged the Man of the Match.
This famous moment was also used in MS Dhoni's biopic, 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput.
Musharraf was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body, back in 2018. The military ruler had been undergoing treatment at American Hospital Dubai, Geo News reported.
On June 10, his family issued a statement on Twitter saying that the former army chief is at a stage where 'recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning.'
“He is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to a complication of his ailment (Amyloidosis). Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living," his family said.
The former general, who was president of the country from 1999 to 2008, was declared a fugitive in the assassination case of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and the Red Mosque cleric killing case. He was charged with high treason and given a death sentence in 2019 for suspending the Constitution. His death sentence was later suspended, PTI reported.
