Out of action for more than 6 months, star Indian pacer may take more time to recover

Every time Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces India's squad for an upcoming series, Jasprit Bumrah's name is being talked out. While Bumrah is yet to recover from his stress fracture, there is another promising Indian pacer who has fallen out of radar. Prasidh Krishna’s last international appearance was in August 2022. The tall pacer from Karnataka is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) going through rehabilitation but it looks like his return to competitive cricket has been delayed.

"Prasidh has a stress fracture and in case of this particular form of injury, you cannot put a date on prospective comeback," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"Every player has a different body type and recovery process and time would be different. It could be anything between six months to one year. In case of Prasidh, he is still not fit enough to return to play and it is unfortunate that he missed the entire domestic season," the source added.

Krishna was considered as India’s new white-ball speciallist. There were also calls from former player to hand him Test debut. However, Krishna’s injury means that he is unlikely to be considered for the ODI World Cup which will be played in India later this year. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj has become a mainstay in the bowling attack which is missing its spearhead Bumrah.

The 26-year-old has missed the whole Ranji Trophy 2023 season. However, he will have a chance to prove his mettle in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 where he represents Rajasthan Royals (RR). In the previous season, Krishna took 19 wickets from 17 games at an average of 29 and an economy rate of 8.29 runs per over.

So far, Krishna has played 14 ODIs. He has 25 wickets at an average of 23.92 and an economy rate of 5.32 runs per over. His best bowling figures of 4/12 came against West Indies last year. His last ODI appearance was against Zimbabwe where he picked one wicket for 28 runs at Harare.
