Sources have informed Sports Tak that the Indian women's cricket team might soon have a new head coach as the Board of Cricket For Cricket in India (BCCI) are not going to renew the contract of current gaffer Ramesh Powar. The sources also revealed that the BCCI is not happy with the performance of the team under his tutelage.

"His term is getting over and will seek fresh applications for the position," a source informed Sports Tak. They also added that India's apex council will do their legwork to figure out an able replacement for the outgoing head coach.

Powar is currently in his second stint as the head coach of India, having played two Tests and 31 ODIs for the country during his days as a cricketer. He was first the head coach from July to November 2018, when India qualified for the semifinals of the 2018 T20 Women’s World Cup.

However, his reported feud with former senior batter Mithali Raj forced him to be replaced after the T20 World Cup. He was brought back in 2021 and has led the team since, even being retained after the team failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand.

He also led India to the final of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where the side lost to Australia. After that, they lost to England in the T20I series but whitewashed them in the ODI series. The women's team also won the Asia Cup under Ramesh Powar.
