Former Caribbean star batter Ramnaresh Sarwan has stepped down from his role as the selector for the national side's Men's Senior and Youth Selection Panels citing personal reasons.

"Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirms the resignation of West Indies Senior Men's and Youth Selector, Ramnaresh Sarwan, due to personal reasons. Sarwan was appointed as a Selector for the West Indies Men's Youth and Selection Panels on January 6, 2022, however, he has informed CWI that he is no longer able to continue in the role," said an official statement from CWI.

"Given the depth of his experience in the game, we are disappointed that Ramnaresh is unable to continue in the role of Selector, but we fully understand and accept his reasons. We are grateful for his contribution during the period he was involved and hope that he will be able to contribute to West Indies Cricket in some capacity in the future," CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams thanked Ramnaresh for his contributions during his appointment saying.

Robert Haynes has replaced Sarwan for now on an interim basis until Cricket West Indies (CWI) recruits a new candidate for the vacant position. Haynes, who was a leg spinner during his playing days, is also serving as one of the selectors in the junior panel. Desmond Haynes is the head of the current selection panel of the senior men’s team while head coach Phil Simmons is also part of it.

It's a busy period for the senior men's team, with the selection panel expected to name squads for the two T20 World Cups (2022 and 2024), ODI World Cup (2023) and the ongoing WTC cycle (2022-2024).

Meanwhile, the West Indies team is in the Netherlands to play a three-match ODI series against the home team which is set to commence on Tuesday (May 31). The Caribbeans will be led by new captain Nicholas Pooran who was appointed at the helm after Kieron Pollard announced his international retirement last month while playing for Mumbai Indians in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)
