India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on January 17 (Monday) put out a tweet for the first time after the horrific car accident on December 30, 2022 morning. Pant thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), secretary Jay Shah and government authorities for their support.
“I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah & government authorities for their incredible support,” Pant wrote in a tweet.
“From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and the physios for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to see you all on the field,” the southpaw wrote in another tweet.
Just an hour after tweeting for the first time, the 25-year-old shared posted another tweet with a picture of two heroes who helped him right through when the accident occurred.
Pant, in another tweet said, "I may not have been able to thank everyone individually, but I must acknowledge these two heroes who helped me during my accident and ensured I got to the hospital safely. Rajat Kumar & Nishu Kumar, Thank you. I'll be forever grateful and indebted."
The wicketkeeper is expected to be out of action for the most part of 2023 which means he will be unavailable for the Indian Premier League (IPL), World Test Championship (WTC) final (if India qualifies) and ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Pant is expected to undergo another surgery in six weeks to reconstruct his knee. It will be followed by another plastic surgery. The 25-year-old is currently at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital inMumbai.
On December 30 (Friday), Pant was involved in a devastating accident when his car hit a divider while he was traveling from Delhi to Roorkee.
In Pant's absence, India have included Srikar Bharat and Ishan Kishan in the Test squad against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is scheduled to commence on February 09 in Nagpur.
