The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formed a three-member committee -- BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal, and council member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia – to probe alleged threat Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha received from a senior journalist for not giving him/her an interview.
Earlier, Saha wrote in a series of tweet that he does not want to reveal the name of the journalist. He did express that he will reveal the name if threatened again. However, the probe suggests that Saha is ready to reveal the name of the journalist.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has today constituted a three-member committee to look into the matter of Wriddhiman Saha receiving threats and intimidation from a senior journalist," BCCI said in a release.
BCCI stated that a "centrally contracted cricketer was allegedly threatened by a senior journalist for not responding to his messages asking for an interview". Also, the committee will begin the probe as “early as next week”.
Earlier the BCCI had contacted Saha and took a decision to constitute a three-member committee and investigate the matter.
"You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don't take insults kindly. And I will remember this," one of the texts sent by the alleged journalists read in the screenshot posted by Saha.
Before the controversy took centrestage, Saha was told by Indian team management that he is not in scheme of things going forward in red-ball cricket. Even head coach Rahul Dravid had the tough talk with the veteran of 40 Tests.
Saha was a part of India’s squad in home Test series against New Zealand. In his last Test series, Saha had scored 61 against the Kiwis in Kanpur Test which was followed by ordinary scores in Wankhede Test.
On the other hand, Saha revealed that he was given assurance by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly of his place after a half-century against New Zealand in home Test series last year.
