The second edition of the Road Safety World Series is likely to begin in the month of February this year. The inaugural edition of the RSWS featured legends of the game with teams from India, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies competing for the title.
“Right now, we are looking to stage the tournament in between February and March. We are looking to kickstart it in the last week of February and the finals would be over by the last week of March,” a report by ANI revealed.
Renowned players including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Jonty Rhodes, Herschelle Gibbs, Virender Sehwag, etc were part of the previous edition and these legends were seen taking cricket fans back in time.
The upcoming RSWS 2022 is set to be played in India across four different venues; Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Lucknow, and Indore, claim reports. A final call on whether spectators will be allowed to watch or it is going to be a closed doors event is yet to be taken.
Confirming the development, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president and former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin said, "It is a good event to have in Hyderabad and HCA is extremely happy and proud to host this stupendous event. It is a privilege for us to welcome all the legends of the game to Hyderabad and this event will be an excellent opportunity for the fans of Hyderabad to see the legends in action once again, and this time, apart from playing for the pride and glory of their country, they will also play for the cause of road safety, which is the primary theme of the event."
The Tendulkar-led India Legends won the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series last year after defeating Sri Lanka Legends by 14 runs in the finals. Though it remains to be seen if Tendulkar will feature in this edition as reports emerged recently of him not playing in the tournament.
The first edition was hosted in Mumbai in 2020 but the tournament was stopped mid-way due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The tournament resumed in 2021 in Raipur.
