The ICC announced Shamar Joseph, Ollie Pope, and Josh Hazlewood as the nominees for the Men's Player of the Month award for January, 2024.

In the West Indies' two-match Test series against Australia, Shamar Joseph made his international debut. The pace bowler emerged as his team's top wicket-taker with 13 wickets in two matches at an economy rate of 5.05. He also achieved two five-wicket hauls during this period.

During the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, Joseph claimed seven wickets in the second innings, aiding the visiting team to an eight-run triumph. He was also awarded the Player of the Series award after the Caribbean side breached the Gabba fortress.

Ollie Pope's Remarkable Performance

Ollie Pope delivered an outstanding performance during England's first Test against India at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Despite the Three Lions trailing by 190 runs after the second innings, Pope's impressive knock of 196 runs off 278 balls, including 21 fours, kept England in contention.

Pope clinched the award for the Player of the Match after England won the match by 28 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the first Test. However, his performance in the second Test in Vizag wasn't up to par, as he belted 23 runs in both innings at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

Pope will aim to regain his form when the third Test commences on February 15 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood turned out to be the top wicket-taker in the Test series between Australia and Kraigg Brathwaite's West Indies. Across two matches, the fast bowler claimed 14 wickets at an economy rate of 2.22, including one four-wicket haul and one five-wicket haul.

Hazlewood also displayed his prowess in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he picked up three wickets.
