Ahead of a long Test season at home followed by the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, Shardul Thakur made his comeback after recovering foot surgery in June 2024. This was Thakur’s second foot surgery in five years.
Thakur who made his last appearance in competitive cricket for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, turned up for Mumbai against Karnataka State Cricket Association Secretary's XI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
As per TOI, Thakur was not impressive on his return with the bat and bagged a duck. He also bowled an eight overs and conceded 29 runs but could not take a wicket.
Thakur missed the ongoing Duleep Trophy as he was still recuperating after surgery. He will look to make a comeback in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November.
Thakur to return via Ranji Trophy?
Considering the pace-friendly conditions in Australia, Thakur has a chance to make a comeback. He is unlikely to feature in three-Test series against New Zealand at home even if he recovers in time.
He can prove his fitness in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Defending champions Mumbai will take on Baroda in the opening game on October 11. Mohammed Shami is likely to represent Bengal in the tournament as well.
