The Quetta Gladiators have appointed former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait as their new bowling coach for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Tait will be joining forces with fellow Australian Shane Watson, who was earlier named the head coach of the Quetta-based franchise.
Tait, known for his blistering pace during his playing days, expressed enthusiasm about working with the Gladiators’ promising fast-bowling unit, which includes Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and the recently acquired Mohammad Amir. Hasnain has been a consistent performer for the Gladiators over the past seasons, while Amir and Wasim Jr have joined the squad following trades from Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, respectively.
Grateful for the opportunity, Tait acknowledged team owner Nadeem Omar’s confidence in his coaching abilities. This new role comes after Tait's tenure as the fast bowling coach for the Pakistan national men’s team, which began in February 2022 and lasted for a year.
"Hi everyone, Shaun Tait here. I can happily announce that I'll be the bowling coach for the Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming HBL PSL. I would like to thank Mr Nadeem Omar for trusting me with the bowling group and bowlers like Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Wasim Jr and some real great talent," Tait was quoted as saying in a video.
Tait's and Watson’s primary goal will be to rejuvenate the Gladiators, following a disappointing performance in the previous PSL season where they finished last. The team managed only three wins in 10 games, underlining the need for strategic changes and effective coaching.
Known for his exceptional speed and ability to generate bounce, Tait’s career was marred by injuries, limiting his appearances on the field. However, his expertise and experience in fast bowling are expected to bring valuable insights and guidance to the Gladiators’ bowling attack.
The Quetta Gladiators, led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, are hoping that the addition of Tait to their coaching staff will inject new energy into the team and help them make a strong comeback in the next edition of the PSL.
