Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remained unchanged at the ninth and tenth spots respectively whilst Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul made headway in the latest ICC men's ODI Player Rankings issued on Wednesday (December 7).
Iyer has ascended the ranking ladder by seven places to joint 20th after scoring 24 in the first ODI against Bangladesh and 49 in the previous final game against New Zealand.
As for Rahul he leapfrogged four places to 35th after playing a handy knock of 73 against Bangladesh at Mirpur.
Only two Indian batters are the forbearers of the Indian team in top 10. Amongst the bowlers, Indian paces Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur also saw an elevation in their rankings after an impressive outing in the opening ODI against Bangladesh.
While Siraj holds the 26th position along with Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, Thakur leapt nine places to 42nd position.
Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, had his rank shooting up to ninth among bowlers after his five-wicket haul against India in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series. Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan has earned four slots to sixth position in the ODI bowlers' rankings after fetching 4/37 in the last match of their Super League series against Sri Lanka.
Among others, Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has surpassed England's Joe Root to pinch the top spot in the Test Player rankings after he became the only eighth player to achieve the landmark of scoring a double century and a century in the same Test.
Labuschagne, who was just two points behind Root in close pursuit, now basks in a strong lead at the pinnacle while the former England skipper has slumped to fourth position behind Steve Smith and Babar Azam.
Labuschagne's knocks of 204 and 104 not out in the Test opener against the West Indies in Perth have helped him bank 50 points and now he leads his counterpart Smith by 42 rating points.
Labuschagne has reclaimed the no.1 position after Root trumped him in mid-June with consecutive centuries against New Zealand.
Smith has been rewarded with a promotion too and moved up the ranking by two slots after pitching in the win with two unbeaten scores of 200 and 20. Along with Marnus, the Aussie maverick joined the fifth instance of two Australians powering double centuries in the same Test. This is Smith's highest rating points of 893 which he added to his tally.
Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon has paced up one place to 15th spot among bowlers following an eight-wicket haul helped accomplish a 164-run victory and solidify his team's top position in the WTC points table.
Meanwhile the West Indies skipper Kraigg Braithwaite returns to the fold of the top 20 after scores of 64 and 110 in the Test played at Perth. While Braithwaite's counterpart Kyle Mayers climbed to 41st in the bowlers' rankings.
England's famous win of 74 runs in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi has had a positive effect in the rankings of their batters and the seamers. Bowling pair of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson have also benefitted from the win as they did the lion's share of work in the undoing of the Pakistan team on the final day finished with five wickets each in the match.
Three Lions batters who reached three figures in the opening Test match, Zak Crawley has been upped two places to 46th and Harry Brook rises 90 places to 70th, Ben Duckett re-entered at 127th place and Ollie Pope also gained two rating points, have all had their slices of promotion in the ranking ladder. While Anderson moves closer to the top with two places in the third position and Robinson blazed seven places to a career-best eighth,
Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique has climbed up five places to 15th while his opening compatriot Imam-ul-Haq has been updated to 12 places, ranked 38th. The duo has notched up career-best rankings after pummeling centuries in the first innings and constructing a 225-run stand.
Youngster Naseem Shah has forged up five places to 54th with bagging five wickets in the match, while the other fast bowler Zahid Mahmood's six-wicket haul helps him enter the rankings in 109th position.
