Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is set to contest for the post of Cricket Association Bengal (CAB) president post. Ganguly's stint as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President recently came to an end. Ganguly will file his nomination for CAB president on October 22 whereas the new panel will be decided on October 22.
If Ganguly wins the election, it will be another homecoming for him. He had served as CAB president from 2015 to 2019 before taking over as BCCI president. After the southpaw's departure, Avishek Dalmiya became the youngest CAB president.
After the 50-year-old’s tenure came to an end, he said that he will continue to contribute to the sport.
"These were great moments, whatever you do in life. I keep telling everyone, the best days were when you played for your country. I have seen so much after that, I have been president of the CAB, I have been president of the BCCI, and I will go on to do bigger things in the future, but those 15 years will be the best days of my life," Ganguly was quoted as saying.
"Those were the days when I woke up every morning to be successful. When you left the hotel, you thought it was an important day for me, 'if I don't score, I may not be picked again'. But at the end of the day, when you went on to score a hundred, you felt the world is the best place to be in because you have been successful," he added.
After Ganguly, India's 1983 World Cup-winning member Roger Binny is likely to take over as BCCI president.
