South African batters Quinton De Kock and Rassie van der Dussen move up in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for ODI batters after some stellar performances in the recently concluded ODI series against India. The Proteas clinched the series 3-0 thanks to some phenomenal knocks from the duo. India’s Shikhar Dhawan also moved up in the rankings after two half-centuries against Temba Bavuma-led side.
De Kock who scored a hundred in the final ODI at Cape Town finds himself at the fifth position with 783 rating points. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 229 runs in the series. Middle-order batter Van der Dussen scored 218 runs in series against the men in blue including a hundred in the first ODI in Paarl as he breaks into the top 10 rankings with 753 points and is 10th on that list. Left-handed batter Dhawan has also moved in to the 15th position with 718 points. The southpaw scored 169 runs in the series which included two fifties.
India’s white-ball superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma find themselves at second and third position respectively. Kohli who held onto the number one position for nearly four years has now been replaced by Pakistan captain Babar Azam at that position. India’s former captain scored 116 runs in the series in South Africa which included two fifties and a golden duck. Sharma who missed the ODI series in the rainbow nation is all set to comeback and lead India in the home series against the West indies.
Proteas opening batsman, Janneman Malan is at the 32nd position. KL Rahul, who led India in the series against South Africa is ranked 27 after three disappointing scores.
In ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah is the only Indian bowler to be in the top 10 rankings. Bumrah who was India’s vice-captain in the last ODI series is at the seventh position with 689 points. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is at the 21st position.
Proteas pacer Kagiso rabada who was rested against India is 13th on the list. Lungi Ngidi is ranked 20, while spinner Tabraiz Shamsi occupied the 28th rank after a stellar show against India in two ODIs he played.
