Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty, wife of KL Rahul lashed out at media after a video of them captured in a London’s Luxx club went viral. Athiya took to Instagram and issued a statement as she felt that it is necessary to take a stand for herself and her partner who is currently recovering after undergoing surgery.

Athiya’s statement

“I usually chose to be silent and not react, but sometimes it's important to stand up for yourself. Rahul, I and out friends went out to a regular place, as one does. Stop taking things out of context, and check your facts before reporting. Peace and love,” Athiya posted on her Instagram story on May 27.

Rahul’s injury

Earlier, on May 1, Rahul got injured while fielding in the infamous clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The LSG captain left the field as he got injured while trying to save a boundary. He walked out to bat at no.11 in the run chase but was unable to take a single run and struggled to hit shots.

After the game, Rahul was ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In his absence, Krunal Pandya led the LSG team which qualified for playoffs for the second time but lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the eliminator clash by 81 runs.

Later, Rahul was also ruled out of World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The 31-year-old underwent surgery more than two weeks ago. Few days later, he posted photos of himself walking with the help of crutches.

Impact of social media trolls on Rahul

Recently in an interview, Rahul opened up on insensitive trolls he has been subjected to on social media. As the wicketkeeper-batter suffered a slump in form, he has received flak on social media.

"That's something that sometimes affects me and affects a lot of the other boys as well that when we athletes truly need support, people feel they can or have the power to comment or say what they want. Just see what that person is going through," Rahul said on 'The Ranveer Show'.

"None of us wants to perform badly. This is our life. This is all we do. Like I said, I don't know anything else apart from cricket.

"That's the only thing I do. Why would anyone assume that I am not serious about my game or that I am not working hard enough? And unfortunately in sports, there is no connection. Like I said you can work hard, like I work hard but the result didn't go my way," he added on the podcast.
