Suryakumar Yadav, India's leading T20 International batter, recently provided an update on his injury status to his fans. On Saturday, Yadav took to Instagram, sharing a video where he is seen using a crutch for support and sporting a brace on his foot. This development has forced Suryakumar to miss the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled to begin on January 11.
"On a slightly serious note, injuries are never fun, but I'll take it in my stride and promise to be back, fully fit, in no time! Till then, hope you all are enjoying the holiday season and finding little joys, everyday," wrote Suryakumar.
Yadav, who is currently India's number one ranked T20I batter, has been a crucial player for the team. His recent performance in the T20I series against South Africa was nothing short of remarkable, earning him the 'Player of the Series' title. In that series, he amassed a total of 156 runs across two matches, which included both a century and a fifty.
The 2023 season has seen Yadav in exceptional form in the T20I format. In 18 matches this year, he has scored an impressive 733 runs at an average of 48.86, maintaining a high strike rate of 155.95. His highest score this year is an outstanding 112. Notably, his tally includes two centuries and five fifties.
Looking at his overall T20I career, Yadav's statistics are equally impressive. In 60 T20I matches, he has accumulated 2,141 runs, maintaining an average of 45.55 and a strike rate exceeding 171. His record boasts four centuries and 17 fifties, with his highest score being a remarkable 117.
Yadav's injury and uncertain status for the upcoming series against Afghanistan are a significant concern for the Indian cricket team. His absence could impact the team's performance, given his consistent run-scoring ability and critical role in the batting lineup. Fans and the cricket fraternity alike are eagerly awaiting further updates on his fitness and hope for his swift recovery and return to the field.
