Virat Kohli’s decision of stepping down from India’s Test captaincy has started a never ending debate on who would succeed him as captain longest format. Many experts and former cricketers have weighed in with their opinion on this. Former Australian pacer Brett Lee is the latest to comment on the hot topic.

Lee mentioned that he hasn’t followed Indian cricket much in recent times due to the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) and the recently concluded Ashes 2021-22 series and was not ready to opine on Kohli’s sudden decision. He also added that India have a lot of options for the next Test captain and said four to five candidates are ready for the role at the moment.

“It is totally Virat Kohli's call. I have been focused on the Big Bash League back home and obviously, the Ashes. I cannot say much about it, it is totally up to Virat Kohli. I think there are four-five players who can lead India in Tests right only, only time will tell," Lee told ANI on the sidelines of Legends League Cricket here in Oman.

"It is totally up to the Indian management, there are four-five players who can do the job," he added.

The former Aussie speedster returned to pitch on January 26 for World XI's clash against Asian Lions. In his quota of four overs, Lee conceded 27 runs and picked up the wicket of Bangladesh's Mohammad Rafique.

Lee was one of the fastest bowlers to have played the game and has picked 310 wickets in 76 Tests and 380 wickets in 221 ODIs for the Australian side and was part of the famous trio of bowling alongside Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie.

Australia recently appointed pacer Pat Cummins as their Test captain and won the Ashes 4-0.
