Uganda has made history by becoming the 20th team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 4 next year. Namibia is the second team from the Africa region to qualify. Uganda qualified for the T20 World Cup after defeating Rwanda in their final game of the Africa region qualifier. With this, they denied Zimbabwe a spot in the next edition of the T20 World Cup.
Uganda also became just the fifth African nation to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. With five wins from their six games, Uganda secured a top-two finish in the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier and booked their berth for the upcoming showpiece event. Notably, This will be Uganda's first-ever appearance in an World Cup event. Uganda will join Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and South Africa as the African nations to have played in the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be Uganda's first opportunity to compete on the global stage.
Heartbreak for Zimbabwe
This is another heartbreak for Zimbabwe, who have missed out on qualifying for the World Cup for the second consecutive time. They also missed out on the ODI World Cup in the qualifiers. They will now have to wait until the next World Cup to try to qualify again. Zimbabwe suffered defeats at the hands of Namibia and Uganda. Notably, the Chevrons played the 2022 T20 World Cup where they turned heads by upsetting Pakistan.
All 20 Teams Confirmed
With Uganda's qualification, all 20 teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 have now been confirmed. This is a major achievement for Uganda, who are only the third African team to qualify for the T20 World Cup, after Kenya and Namibia.
Uganda's Road to Qualification
Uganda's road to the T20 World Cup 2024 was not without its challenges. After a comfortable eight-wicket win over Tanzania in their opening game, the African side faced a six-wicket defeat to Namibia in their next match. However, Uganda bounced back in style, defeating Zimbabwe by five wickets. Skipper Sikandar Raza's 48* starred for Zimbabwe, but Uganda's bowling effort led by Dinesh Nakrani (3/14) restricted the Chevrons to 136/7.
During the chase, Uganda was guided by Riazat Ali Shah (42) and Alpesh Ramjani (40) to a five-wicket victory.
Uganda then overcame Nigeria and Kenya with ease, ensuring their qualification for the T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated Rwanda by nine wickets, bowling them out for a mere 65 runs.

Uganda will now begin preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024. They will be hoping to make a big impact on the tournament and cause some upsets.
