England opener Danielle Wyatt sent a message to Women Premier League (WPL) franchises after not getting picked in the auction. Wyatt smashed 97 runs from 45 deliveries for Amazons against Super Women in Women's League Exhibition at Rawalpindi on March 10.
Wyatt had put an emotional post after not getting picked by any WPL franchise. She tweeted: “Dreamt of playing in the WPL. Hearbtroken. Congrats to all who got picked up. India is a wonderful place to play cricket”.
After failing to make the cut in WPL, Wyatt was among 10 overseas players selected in the T20 exhibition league in Pakistan.
She got out early in the first of three-match series. She scored 22 runs from 18 deliveries on March 8. Two days later, she tormented Super Women bowling attack consisting of international stars Lea Tahuhu, Nida Dar and Sadia Iqbal.
Wyatt lost her opening partner Eyman Fatika in the first over. She decided to use the fielding restrictions and hit Syeda Masooma Zahra for a six and two fours. She took on Iqbal in a similar manner in the sixth over. She reached her half-century from just 23 deliveries in the eighth over.
She continued to hit boundaries. In the 11th over, South Africa captain Sune Luus was handed the ball as well by skipper Dar. Wyatt hit her for three consecutive boundaries. In the 14th over, Tuba Hassan ended Wyatt's onslaught. Lauren Winfield-Hill took a good catch just inside the rope to deprive of her century. Her 97-run knock was studded with 17 fours and three sixes.
The 31-year-old shared a 137-run partnership for the second wicket with skipper Bismah Maroof. Former Pakistan captain remained not out for 73 off 51 deliveries to help Amazons post 204/3 on the board.
In reply, no batter apart from Winfield-Hill looked like they were going for the chase. Winfield-Hill smashed 11 fours and three sixes in her 42-ball 80 but lacked support from the other end. Iram Javed stitched a 64-run partnership for the third wicket but could not keep up with the rising required run rate. Super Women managed to score 163/9 and lost the match by 41 runs.
Wyatt did the damage with the ball too. She picked up the wicket of Luus and conceded just 17 runs from her quota of four overs.
The three-T20 series is tied at 1-1. The final decider will be played on March 11.
