Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was arrested on February 27, 2022 (Sunday), for allegedly drunk driving. It is believed that he dashed into another car which is owned by former India cricketer Ramesh Powar’s wife, Tajaswani Powar.
Manjunath Singhe, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that Kambli was driving his car “in a drunken state” and “further investigation is being done by Bandra police station.”

“He was driving his car in a drunken state. He has been arrested and further investigation is being done by Bandra police station,” said Singhe as quoted by the Indian Express.
The 50-year-old former India cricketer was arrested following a complaint from a resident of a Bandra society. He was charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section r.w. 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act (driving under the influence of alcohol).
Though, according to a police officer, Kambli was later “released on bail by evening.”
“He was then arrested and released on bail by evening,” said a police officer as quoted by the Indian Express.
Past incidents
It is important to mention that in last year, Kambli was found to be a victim of a cyber fraud as Rs 1.14 lakh got withdrawn from his account. The fraudster called Kambli and impersonated a private bank official. The money got withdrawn as he had asked for updating his know your customer details (KYC). Later the former India cricketer had filed a complaint.
The Mumbai-born former international cricketer had represented his country in 17 in the Test format and in ODIs he has played 104 matches for India.
In the longest format of the game he bagged 4 centuries and 3 fifties. He scored 1084 runs at an average of 54.20. His strike rate in Test cricket has been 59.46.
In ODIs, he scored 2477 runs at an average of 32.59. Kambli notched 2 centuries and 14 half centuries in ODIs.
In Test cricket, he had made his debut back in 1993 against England, in Kolkata. On the other hand, in ODIs, he made his debut in 1991, against New Zealand, in Cuttack.
His last international match took place against Sri Lanka, back in the year 2000.
