Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has shared his post-retirement plans, expressing his desire to spend more time with the Indian Army. Although Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he continues to actively participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhoni is set to lead CSK in what could be his last IPL season. In the previous season, he guided the team to their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Responding to a fan's query at an event, the 42-year-old expressed his desire to dedicate more time to the Army post-retirement. After the victory against GT in the final of the previous season, Dhoni declared his intention to continue playing for at least one more year.
"I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be very interesting to see what I end up doing after cricket. I think for sure, I want to spend a bit more time with the Army because last few years I have not been able to do that," said Dhoni.
CSK initially tried to replace Dhoni with Ravindra Jadeja as captain for IPL 2022, just before their opening match. However, the five-time champions faced challenges, sitting at the bottom of the table with only one win in the first seven matches. Dhoni assumed leadership in 2023 and guided them to the title in Ahmedabad.
After the 2023 season, CSK released eight players before the IPL 2024 retention deadline and added six new players, including Daryl Mitchell (Rs 14 crore), Sameer Rizvi (Rs 8.4 crore), Shardul Thakur (Rs 4 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs 1.8 crore), Mustafizur Rahman (Rs 2 crore), Avanish Rao Aravelly (Rs 20 lakh).
