After a torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) season where Ravindra Jadeja's was announced as captain and then removed from the post, there were rumours that the all-rounder is likely to part ways from the franchise. More than two weeks ahead of the deadline to announce the list of retained players, a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) top source has told Sports Tak that the franchise has no intentions of releasing their star player.
The source quashed all reports of Jadeja leaving CSK and branded them baseless. “Why would we release him? There is no point. Also, we haven't had any discussion about it,” the source said.
On being asked whether Jadeja wants to be released from the franchise, he responded, "He hasn't approached us and we have not talked about it. We are on the same page so there is no question of releasing him.”
Jadeja was retained for a huge sum of Rs 16 crore by CSK before the mega auction. He was made captain and led the Chennai-based franchise in eight games. The southpaw could lead the side to win only two games. Hence, he had to step down from the captaincy and Mahendra Singh Dhoni took over mid-season.
Jadeja's last year numbers
The 33-year-old also got injured and missed a few games. In 10 games he played last season, he could score just 116 runs at an average of 19.33. He could take only five wickets at an average of 49.60. He was not his usual self while fielding as well and dropped few crucial catches.
Jadeja's CSK record
Overall, Jadeja has represented CSK in 156 matches. From 112 innings, he has scored 1,596 runs at an average of 26.16 including two half-centuries. The left-arm spinner is CSK's third highest wicket-taker. He has 114 wickets at an average of 28.92 including one fifer.
Knee injury
Jadeja is currently recovering after getting a knee surgery. The knee injury ruled him out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Earlier, he had to return to India midway through Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury.
