The auction for the upcoming second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, December 9, in Mumbai. The WPL 2024 tournament is set to commence in either February or March in 2024, with the schedule yet to come out.
A total of 165 players representing five franchises — Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore — will be up for bidding during the auction. Among them, 104 are Indian players, while 61 are from overseas, making up the roster for the Women's Premier League 2024 auction on Saturday.
The victors of the inaugural WPL in 2023 were the Mumbai Indians, who clinched the title by defeating Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in the final match. In the first season of the WPL, the most high-priced player was Smriti Mandhana, acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.40 crore ($4.07 million).
