Arjun Tendulkar registered his best ever T20 bowling figures in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2022. Son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun floored Hyderabad batters as he took four wickets in his quota of four overs while other bowlers were taken to the cleaners at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
Arjun made an impact with the new ball with the wicket of opener Prateek Reddy. The left-arm pacer was brought back into the attack in the slog overs by Goan skipper Snehal Suhas Kauthankar. The move worked as he got the wicket of new batter Rahul Buddhi (8) followed by Ravi Teja (4) in the 17th over. In the previous over, the second-wicket partnership of 112 was broken by Darshan Misal with the wicket of skipper Tanmay Agarwal (55).
In the penultimate over, the pacer started off with the wicket of Tilak Varma. The Mumbai Indians (MI) batter got trapped leg before wicket by the 23-year-old. The southpaw had scored 62 runs from 46 deliveries including six fours and two sixes.
Arjun did not just take the big wicket but did not let batters score freely as well. He conceded just 10 runs from his quota of four overs. He bowled a total of 17 dot balls and conceded just one boundary against the Hyderabad side.
His phenomenal bowling helped Goa restrict Hyderabad to 177/6. Before taking a four-fer, he had taken four wickets from as many T20s at an average of 26.75 and an economy rate of 7.64 runs per over.
Arjun is yet to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. He was picked for Rs 30 lakh by MI in the IPL 2022 auction. As MI were knocked out of playoffs contention early in the season, the team management handed debut caps to a few players but Arjun remained on the sidelines.
