After the group stage, four teams will advance to the Round of 16, where two victors will join six more teams in the quarterfinals. The grand finale is scheduled to be held in Mohali on November 5.

One of the most significant highlights of this tournament is the comeback of Sanju Samson, who will lead the Kerala team. This marks his return to the field following his exclusion from the Indian 2023 World Cup squad as well as the Asian Games team. Additionally, members of India's Asian Games Gold Medal-winning team, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma, will also make their return to competitive cricket in India.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy not only ushers in the commencement of India's white-ball domestic season but also serves as a crucial platform for fringe players to reaffirm their value. With the 2024 T20 World Cup on the horizon and expectations of transitions within Indian cricket post the World Cup, this tournament becomes an opportune moment for these players. Furthermore, it offers a golden chance for young talents to showcase their skills ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, expected in the coming months.
