Over the years, there have been players who have massively gained with performances in Indian Premier League (IPL). On the other side, there are players who have not been under the radar after inconsistent run in the cash-rich league. Tamil Nadu-born Arun Karthik is one of the players who had their moments but could not make it big in IPL. Years later, he has proved his mettle in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2022 with a 106-run knock.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h4>Karthik’s stupendous knock</h4>Karthik scored Karthik was upto the task when Nellai Royal Kings set a mammoth 210-run target, thanks to Sanjay Yadav's unbeaten 70. Chasing 210, Karthik had little support from the other end. He was dropped in the third over and made Kings pay for their mistake. In the powerplay overs, Karthik and NS Chaturved helped Madurai Panthers post 62/2 on the board. However, Chaturved got out in the ninth over after his 15-ball 27.&nbsp;Karthik reached his half-century from 25 balls just after the halfway stage. Panthers kept losing wickets but Karthik fired from the other end and kept them in the hunt. Towards the end, Panthers need too many runs to make it a one-man job. In the penultimate over, he reached three figures with a six.&nbsp;Panthers needed 35 runs from the last over. Karthik swung at everything but got out in the final over. He scored 106 runs from 57 deliveries including 12 fours and five sixes. In the end, Panthers lost the match by a margin of 26 runs but Karthik’s knock stood out. This was Karthik's first big score in the ongoing tournament. Also, he is the first centurion of the season.&nbsp;<h4>Karthik’s famous last-ball six</h4>Karthik made his IPL debut in 2010 season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He registered a single-digit score. Next year, he went on to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was a part of RCB's Champions League lineup as well. His IPL career-defining moment came in Champions League 2011 when he hit a last-ball six against South Australia to guide RCB to the semi-finals of now-defunct tournament. His last IPL appearance was in 2013 where he did not get to bat.

Won crucial match for RCB with last-ball six, former IPL batter smashes record 106 runs in TNPL

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and India star opener Murali Vijay wreaked havoc with his stunning ton but unfortunately couldn't save Trichy Warriors from going down to Nellai Royal Kings by 66 runs in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League-6 in Coimbatore on Friday.&nbsp;Vijay took Royal Kings' bowling attack to cleaners as he clobbered 121 off 66 balls which was fuelled with 12 maximums and seven boundaries while chasing a colossal target of 237.&nbsp;Batting first, Sanjay Yadav&nbsp;struck a brilliant unbeaten 103, loaded with nine sixes and six fours, which was well complemented by Under-19 World Cup sensation Baba Aparajith's impressive 92 to help Royal Kings muster a huge target and then fold the Warriors innings to a paltry 170-7 to script their sixth victory in the tournament.&nbsp;In pursuit of a stiff total, Vijay was dropped on 0 but that didn’t stop him from going for his shots. Trichy crossed the 50-run mark in 3.3 overs with Vijay contributing 33. The stylish former India opener raised his half-century off just 18 deliveries. Ajitesh, stationed at mid-wicket region, dropped Vijay when the batsman was on 55. Vijay’s innings was full of strokes all-round the ground as Trichy reached 103-3 at the halfway mark. Vijay, despite very little support from the other end, soldiered on and was dismissed in the last ball of the chase. For Nellai, medium-pacer K Easwaran (2-42) and off-spinner Aparajith (2-38) shone with the ball.&nbsp;The first half of play was owned by Aparajith and Sanjay. The two got together in 4th over after Nellai lost their openers Sri Neranjan (5) and L Suryapprakash (18) with 29 on board. The duo, who have been the in-form players for Nellai this season, once again showed their mettle with the willow. They were spot on with their running between the wickets and shot selection. The two raised the team 100 in 12.2 overs.&nbsp;From thereon, it was carnage as the Aparajith-Sanjay pair smashed 136 runs in the last 7.4 overs. Sanjay was the aggressor of the two and the pair’s 207-run unfinished stand was the highest ever partnership in the tournament. “Sanjay has been batting beautifully in the tournament. At one point we were targeting a total of 150-160. But once Sanjay started to play his shots, &nbsp;there was no stopping,” Aparajith said after the innings.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Trichy frontline bowlers went for runs with P&nbsp;Saravana Kumar (1/42 from 4 overs) and Rahil S Shah (1/13 from 1 over) managing to pick up the openers.

While few capitalised and grabbed eyeballs with impressive performances, 27-year-old Sanjay Yadav missed out on the opportunity. Few months later, Sanjay delivered a match-winning performance at no.4.&nbsp;In Nellai Royal Kings' Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) clash against Madurai Panthers, Sanjay scored 70 runs not out from 42 deliveries including four fours and six sixes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sanjay walked out to bat in the eighth over of the first innings. He hit four fours and six sixes in his 70-run knock. He shared an unbeaten 100-run stand for the fourth wicket with Baba Indrajith (34). However, in the partnership, Sanjay did the bulk of the scoring. In the first innings, Nellai Royal Kings scored 209/3.&nbsp;Sanjay negated the Varun Chakaravarthy factor as well. The mystery spinner was the most expensive bowler. Chakaravarthy conceded 50 runs from his quota of four overs.&nbsp;Sanjay delivered with the ball as well and conceded runs at eight runs per over. He did not get a wicket but did not concede too many boundaries while defending the target of 210.&nbsp;&nbsp;For Madurai Panthers, opener Arun Karthik kept the run chase alive. With barely enough support from the other end, Karthik scored 106 runs from 57 deliveries including 12 fours and five sixes. In the end, Nellai Royal Kings won the match by 26 runs.&nbsp;<h4>Unimpressive IPL debut</h4>Sanjay made his debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He bowled two overs and conceded 23 runs. He batted at no.8 for MI in the run chase. He came in to bat in the penultimate over when nine balls were remaining. He could not finish the game and got out for a two-ball duck to veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. MI ended up losing the match by just three runs.&nbsp;Sanjay was picked for Rs 50 lakh in IPL 2022 mega auction after a mini tussle with Punjab Kings (PBKS). It will be interesting to see whether he gets retained for the next season. So far, he has scored three half-centuries in ongoing TNPL season with a high score of 87 not out.
