Record Alert: Sunil Narine enters history books, completes 500 T20 wickets in Surrey's victory in T20 Blast

West Indies' spin wizard Sunil Narine stormed into the history books as he scripted a massive milestone during the ongoing T20 Blast match between Surrey and Glamorgan. On Wednesday (June 7), Narine became only the third bowler to snare 500 wickets in T20s in Surrey's 65-run win over Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens.

Narine clocked the record in the second over of his spell when he dismissed Glamorgan's Colin Ingram (11 off 11) who holed out to Sam Curran at deep mid-wicket.

Watch Narine's historic moment…

Notably, Narine's former teammate Dwayne Bravo was the first bowler to snare 500 wickets in Twenty20, who have 615 wickets against his name. Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan comes second in the list with 555 scalps against his name.

By the end of his spell, Narine returned with a bowling figure of 34/1 in four overs as Glamorgan fizzled out for 171-8 in their stipulated 20 overs. Narine has so far picked 11 wickets in seven matches in the ongoing season for Surrey. However, he couldn't perform well in the just concluded Indian Premier League 2023 where he could only snare 11 wickets in a total of 14 matches.

Talking about the match, Ingram's dismissal left Glamorgan reeling at 75/3 after 8.1 overs while chasing a monumental target of 237.

Batting first, star opener Laurie Evans put a stunning show with his blistering centurion knock of 118 off 60 to help Surrey post a colossal total of 236/2. Evans cracked twelve fours and six sixes in his spellbinding knock at a strike rate of 196.66. He stitched a crucial partnership of 115 runs with Will Jacks who scored 46 off 29 balls and then followed it up with another 118-run stand with Curran, who blasted a quickfire 66 off just 29 balls which was studded with seven sixes and a boundary.

In reply, barring Sam Northeast's 76 off 54, Glamorgan's batters fizzled out and were bundled out for 171/8 to hand Surrey an emphatic 65-run win.
