West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first against India in the second ODI of the three-match series, scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad.
Changes in the team
Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma made one crucial change to his side that had won the first ODI against West Indies, KL Rahul will open the batting as he will replace Ishan Kishan in the squad.
On the other team, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard will not play in the match as he has an injury. All-rounder Odean Smith will be in the squad in place of Pollard. Nicholas Pooran will lead the visitors in absence of Pollard in the second ODI of the series.
Rohit could not have asked for a better start to his stint as the permanent captain of the ODI team than this after his players registered a convincing six wicket victory in the first ODI of the three-match series against West Indies, on February 6, in Ahmedabad.
Skipper Rohit would undoubtedly want to keep the winning momentum intact and as a result of that team India made two changes to the side that had played the first ODI against West Indies.
First ODI results
In the first ODI, batting first the visitors had registered a total of 176 runs losing 10 wickets in 43.5 overs. For India, their spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scalped four wickets conceding 49 runs. Washington Sundar, on the picked up three wickets.
In reply, India successfully chased the target losing four wickets with 132 balls remaining. For the visitors, their medium pacer Alzarri Joseph bagged two wickets as Akeal Hosein claimed one wicket.
After the completion of the ongoing three-match ODI series, the two teams will face each other in a three-match T20I series as well. The T20I series will be played in Kolkata and will start from February 16.
