Former India skipper Virat Kohli managed to reach a century on Wednesday (February 9) against West Indies during the second ODI of the series in Ahmedabad, after he became the fifth Indian player to make 100 ODI appearances on Indian soil. Overall, he became the 36th player to achieve this remarkable feat.
In his 99 ODIs in India, Kohli registered a total of 5002 runs in 96 innings and at an average of 59.64 and he also finds himself at the top spot in the list of most runs at home after 99 ODIs. In these ODIs, he has notched 19 centuries and 25 half centuries.
Surpassing others
In this elite list, former Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar finds himself at the second spot, with 4231 runs under his belt. In 99 matches the Master Blaster scored 13 centuries.
After Sachin, former Australia batter Dean Jones occupies the third spot with 3746 runs and 4 centuries.
Apart from Sachin and Virat only one more Indian player finds his name in the list and that player is former India skipper MS Dhoni.
The World Cup-winning former captain is at sixth spot in the list. The former wicketkeeper-batsman scored 3592 runs and bagged 6 centuries in 99 ODIs on home soil.
Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting is positioned at eight spot in the list with 3497 runs and 6 centuries.
Apart from these cricketers, former New Zealand player Ross Taylor, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Tamim Iqbal, former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis and West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle are also in the list.
Numbers and stats
Delhi-born, Kohli has the most number of centuries among them all as he secured 19 centuries after playing 99 ODI matches.
Till now, only five Indian cricketers have been able to play 100 or more ODIs on Indian soil. Apart from Kohli, Sachin and Dhoni, former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin (113) and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh (108) are also in this prestigious list.
The first ODI match of the series against West Indies did not go too well for Kohli as he could manage to score just 8 runs off 4 balls.
But Indian team under the leadership had a perfect start in the series after he managed to defeat the visitors by six wickets.
