The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for inaugural season of Women's Premier League (WPL) a day after the glitzy auction in Mumbai.
WPL 2023 will kick off on March 4 with Gujarat Giants taking on Mumbai Indians at DY Patil Stadium. A total of 22 matches will be played. There will be a total of four double headers which will be played on March 5, March 15, March 20 and March 21. 11 matches each will be played at DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium. The final of WPL 2023 will be played on March 26.
On February 13, a total of 87 players were picked in the auction including 30 overseas recruits. India's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was the first name of the auction and turned out to be the most expensive pick at Rs 3.4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner is the most expensive overseas player at Rs 3.2 crore. Gardner was roped in by Mumbai Indians (MI) after an intense bidding war.
