Nottingham Forest have roped in Arsenal and United States Men's National Team's goalkeeper Matt Turner as the 29-year-old has inked a four-year contract with the new team, ushering in a fresh phase in his professional journey.
Turner first made headlines in the international football arena with his sensational shows for the MLS team, New England Revolution. This led to his recruitment by Arsenal the previous summer. However, his time with the Gunners was short-lived, playing in only seven matches during the last season.
With David Raya's anticipated move from Brentford to Arsenal, Turner's position would likely have been compromised. This made the transfer to Nottingham Forest timely. "It feels great to be here. It's a great challenge and a great step in my career," Turner conveyed his enthusiasm about the transition.
After ensuring their spot in the English Premier League last season, Nottingham Forest aim to leverage Turner's prowess. With both Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas reverting to their primary clubs post their loan periods with Forest, Turner is projected to be the primary goalkeeper for the club this season.
Arsenal's Sporting Director, Edu, expressed gratitude to Turner and extended wishes for his journey with Forest, saying, "On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to thank Matt for his contribution to Arsenal and wish him and his family all the best in their new chapter. Matt is an international goalkeeper with the United States and is at a stage of his career when he needs to be playing regularly. He is leaving with our best wishes to join Nottingham Forest,"
Intriguingly, Turner may face Arsenal, his former club, during Forest's Premier League season opener at the Emirates, adding a captivating twist to his transfer tale.
With this move, Nottingham Forest now boasts two US international goalkeepers, as Ethan Horvath, hailing from Colorado, is already part of the team. Turner's transfer not only fortifies Forest's defensive line but also signifies a crucial point in his professional life.
Both Turner and Nottingham Forest stand to benefit from this transfer, hinting at a thrilling season on the horizon.
