Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa Conference League (ECL) match has officially been called off after not less than eight players have been tested positive for Covid-19. The names of the players remain disclosed as two further players and five staff members add to the list of six players who had tested positive on Wednesday (December 8). Spurs are scheduled to play already qualified Rennes at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.
"Every day we are having people with COVID. Everyone is a bit scared and at the end of the training session today, again one player is positive, another member of staff is positive. Tomorrow, who? Me? Another player? Another member of staff? We continue in this way but the situation is serious,” Spurs manager Antonio Conte said in a pre-match press conference.
The former Premier League (PL) winner further added,” We have families, we have contact with our families when we come back home. It is a situation that makes me upset. Now for sure, we are a bit scared, because tomorrow we don’t know what happens.”
The Premier League (PL) side had a tough day at the office last time out as Slovenian side Mura defeated them 2-1 on matchday five. The defeat in stoppage time meant that Rennes qualified for the knockouts as group winners, while Spurs are left in a vulnerable situation to match Vitesse’s result on the final day.
There has been no word on the provisional date of the postponed game; however, it also reported that Spurs have asked the Football Association (FA) to postpone their game against Brighton on Sunday. Spurs’ late collapse against Mura was a blow for Conte’s side as Spurs suffered their first defeat of the season.
