Everton's poor run led to the sacking of Everton manager Frank Lampard. But the former Chelsea star has the backing of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German coach has backed Lampard and said that the Englishmen has a good coaching career ahead of him.
Lampard was sacked after the 2-0 hammering against West Ham which put them in the relegation zone going forward. They are level with 20th-placed Southampton. Lampard's record at Goodison Park is far from what the toffees would have hoped for. In 38 league games, he only won on 9 occasions in his 12-month coaching tenure.
Before Everton, Lampard was sacked by Chelsea. But despite his poor run, Klopp has backed Lampard and believes he has a good coaching career ahead of him - "I feel for Frank. He tried everything. It was not easy for him last year and he did well. They lost Richarlison [to Tottenham] and we know how much injuries can affect a team. Frank will come back. He's still a young coach and has everything ahead of him."
"That's the business, that is how it goes," Klopp told reporters on Friday ahead of Liverpool's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Brighton and Hove Albion.
The latest name to surface over Lampard's replacement is Sean Dyche. This would be Everton's 7th manager in the last 7 years as the blues look to avoid a first relegation since 1951. Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reported to have been the favored choice of owner Farhad Moshiri, and Klopp joked Dyche's appointment may not be as clear-cut. When told Dyche is set to take on the Everton job, Klopp replied: "Is he? That's clear? But I saw Bielsa landing..."
Everton's upcoming fixture at home won't be easy. They take on table-toppers Arsenal on February 4. With a change in their coaching setup, Everton would hope to avoid relegations but until the new manager is appointed it would be a tough season going forward.
