Manchester United’s torrid time continues after the international break as the Red Devils were humiliated at Vicarage Road by Watford. The 4-1 Premier League(PL) loss could have huge ramifications as question marks are being raised on the future of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In the last seven PL encounters, United have have won only one while losing five including losses against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Things got off to a worse possible start for Man Utd as Watford were awarded an 11th minute penalty. David De Gea came up with the goods as he saved the Ismalia Sarr penalty to keep things at parity. Watford though were not seating back, Joshua King captilased in the 28th minute to give Watford the lead. It was his fifth PL goal against the 20-time PL champions. The advantage was doubled at the stroke of half-time as Ismalia Sarr made amends for the penalty save by scoring after the 44th minute off a Femenia pass.
United’s response was imminent and paid rewards as half-time substitute Donny van der Beek pounced in the 50th minute. Ronaldo’s pass was calmly finished by the Dutch international to pull them back in the game. Things went bad to worse, when captain Harry Maguire was given his marching orders in the 69th minute for a second yellow card. Watford on the other hand, enjoyed lots of attacking impetus after that. They ended up with 20 shots at De Gea’s goal with seven on target.
The misery was completed for Manchester United in second-half stoppage time when Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis scored to make the score line 4-1. It now remains to be seen, what the future holds for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Red Devils return to Champions League action with BSC Young Boys visiting Old Trafford in the mid week.
