Ralf Rangnick has officially taken over as the interim boss of Manchester United as the Red Devils try to get back on track. The 63-year-old will be the man at the helm for the rest of the season and will be acting in a consultancy role for the next two years. The German takes over from Ole Gunnar Solskjær who was sacked after a poor string of results in the ongoing Premier League (PL) season.
The news was confirmed on United’s official Twitter handle. The former Schalke manager said, “I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club.”
“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfill their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team,” German tactician spoke on his appointment.
There is no official word on whether the German would be available for the clash against Arsenal on Thursday evening. There was widespread criticism of former boss Solskjær as the 20-time Premier League champions won only one PL match in seven. Their solitary victory came against Spurs last month as they ran 3-0 winners.
Michael Carrick was the man in charge for two games as the former England international remained unbeaten with a win in Champions League against Villareal followed by a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. If the former Leipzig manager is not available for Thursday’s clash against Arsenal, he will take charge on Sunday with Crystal Palace visiting Old Trafford.
