Argentina skipper Lionel Messi issued a war cry ahead of the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France on Sunday, December 18, where he said that he is ready for what might be the biggest game of his career.
The Paris St. Germain forward is set to play in his second World Cup final. Back in 2014, Argentina lost 1-0 to Germany, and with the 35-year-old confirming that this is his last World Cup appearance, the whole Argentina squad will be working towards a single goal — winning Messi the trophy that has eluded him for a long time.
Messi goes into the match as the joint top-scorer in the tournament alongside France's Kylian Mbappe with five goals to his name. He has already spoken about the final and hopes to see Argentina lift the trophy. "We have won five finals and I hope this is the case for the final on Sunday. We lost in the first match due to fine details but it helped us to be stronger," said Messi.
A day before the clash, Messi shared a post on Instagram where he said that he is ready for the big showdown against France and issued a call to arms for the Argentinian fans. "I’m ready. Let’s go, Argentina!!" said Messi in his post on Instagram.

But France goalkeeper and skipper Hugo Lloris believes that the final is not all about their opponent's star player. "The event is too important to focus on one player. It's a final between two great nations," said Lloris. "When you face this kind of player (Messi), you have to pay attention to him, but this game is not just about him."
"We have to be ready to surpass ourselves, to make the effort despite the circumstances with the virus, despite the fatigue. We must finish the job," the Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper added.
