Arsenal defender Pablo Mari, currently on loan at Monza, has been admitted to the hospital after being stabbed at a shopping centre on the outskirts of Milan. The 29-year-old was one of several people injured during an incident at a supermarket in Carrefour.

Monza confirmed that Mari is receiving care at Niguarda hospital in Milan, and his condition is better, according to his parent club Arsenal, who released a statement on him in the hours after the attack. According to reports, the suspect was arrested by police and subsequently taken into custody.

The Italian police officials have confirmed that Mari, who is currently on loan with Serie A side Monza, and five other people were stabbed on Thursday and a 46-year-old suspect has been detained in connection with the incident. However, the motive of the attack is yet to be determined.

The police also confirmed that a 47-year-old Bolivian national, who worked at the supermarket, passed away. Another employee was also injured along with four customers, including Mari. Italian authorities said there were no elements to suggest terrorism.
Monza club CEO Adrian Galliano wished the soccer player a speedy recovery in a message posted on Twitter.

“Dear Pablo, we are all close to your and to your family, we love you, and continue to fight as you know how, you are a warrior and will heal quickly,? Galliano said.

"Pablo Mari had a fairly deep wound on his back, which fortunately did not touch his vital organs such as the lungs or others. His life is not in danger, he should recover quickly," he added.

During his time in the Seria A, Mari has made eight appearances for Monza this season, scoring in their 2-0 victory over Spezia earlier in October.
